Boston College Undergraduate research assistants, Carrie Kandall ‘25 and Pablo Colón Quiñones ‘26, presented on November 9th at the AAC&U 2024 Transforming STEM Higher Education Conference in Arlington, VA. They presented the Aftermath Learning Lab’s research on game-based learning by introducing a board game prototype, called Aftermath: Fast Fashion Fixer, and explaining how design thinking was used in the game’s development. The conference’s accepted presentation is based on past SIGCES grant supported research by Julia DeVoy, PhD, MTS, MBA with other contributions from ALL project manager Cecelia Cheng, ‘23 and current and past project assistant collaborators; Jackie Alicea ‘25 and Addie Metzger ‘24.
Carrie and Pablo led an engaging and interactive design thinking ideation-based activity following the presentation that gave audience members the opportunity to be co-participants in an inclusive design thinking process. This led to a comprehensive and enriching conversation on how to reimagine and iterate the game to make it a more effective educational and entertainment tool. Through attendee dialogue Aftermath: Fast Fashion Fixer new game iterations were identified and feedback collected.
